Rules for the Twilight Cricket Competition
- Competition to be conducted for players
over the age of 40. Players turning 40
during the period of competition are
eligible to register to play.
- Correct cricket attire must be worn
- Alcohol must not be taken onto the field
of play.
- Matches will be played under the laws
of cricket except to the extent that they are
modified as under:
- Matches will be of 2 days duration with
a maximum of 30 overs per innngs.
Matches may be shortened by captain's
consent if inclement weather is imminent.
- Hours of play - 5:30pm to 7:45p.m. A
team must have 7 players to commence
play.
- Players on reaching 25 runs must retire,
and if any overs remain , may continue
their innings after all their team has batted
in order they have retired. On completing
50 runs, batsmen must retire again . If a
team is short of players, the opposition
may nominate a number of batsmen to bat
twice up to eleven players.
- Bowlers are restricted to 2 overs each
day. If a team is short of players, the
opposition may nominate a number of
bowlers to bowl twice to complete the
necessary overs
- Any ball which rises above the batsmen
shoulder shall be called a "no ball" by the
square leg umpire.
- Any ball when bowled which lands
off the pitch or hits the edge of the pitch
shall be called a "no ball"
- A ball passing outside the batsmen pads
and outside the leg stump shall be called a
wide
- An over shall have a maximum of 8 balls
- No bowlers run up shall exceed 10 metres
- Each side will receive 15 overs on each
day. Same rules will apply to batsmen and
bowlers. On the second day the "not out"
batsmen are entitled to resume their innings
or to bat at first opportunity. Substitutes
cannot take the place of a retired or "not
out" batsmen.
POINTS SYSTEM
On the first day - team leading after 15
overs, scores 3points. The other team
scores 1 point.
On the second day - team winning the
second day, scores 3 points and the
other team 1 point.
The team winning the game scores a
bonus four points and the other team
nil.
- If one ground is unplayable, then
the days play is abandoned in both
games. All four captains have to
agree on the day.
- Substitute players may bat and bowl.
The innings of a "not out" batsmen
cannot be completed by a
substitute batsmen. A maximum of
3 substitutes per team are allowed.
- Players may substitute in teams
other than their regular team.
